Last year, Marlene—a counselor living full-time at When the Saints—shared a vision with us. She wanted to teach the girls how to crochet; not just as a hobby, but as a skill that could bring healing, confidence, and even a path toward financial independence. A Sunday School class from First Baptist Church – Somerset, KY heard about this and responded with generosity—donating money, yarn, and needles.
In January, my Redemption Road Church family added even more and we took six or seven large suitcases packed full of those supplies across the ocean. Marlene got to work, teaching the girls stitch by stitch. And now? We have a video of them crocheting with confidence, showing off what they’ve created.
They’ve come a long way. The yarn may have come from Kentucky and Missouri, but the joy, beauty, and hope now flowing from their hands is all theirs. It’s not just about crocheting—it’s about rebuilding dignity, learning a skill, and discovering that they are capable of so much more than what’s happened to them.
This is what redemption looks like: quiet, faithful acts—transforming futures. Watch this short video to see the joy Christ’s love has created and the incredible things they’ve made!
